A puppet is an "animated object", so anything can be made to be a puppet and puppets can be made out of lots of things!
I make portrait and character puppets designed to sit or hang as sculptural pieces (sturdier, but heavier than performance puppets) with soft body (cloth stuffed with polyester, stitched joints) and papier mache head and hands (painted with acrylics, wigs made from yarn, string, cord or faux fur/hair materials), and with animation operation as either; -an approx. 1/3 life sized sitting puppet with rod operated head and hands, or -an approx. 1/4 life size soft body marionette puppet with 7 or 9 string airplane control.
I can make a fantasy puppet person to order, or I could create a puppet caricature/portrait likeness of someone 'real' - working from either a sketch sitting or from photographs. Both full-face and profile images are needed to ensure a good likeness.
Depending on the size, amount of detail work and costume work required these puppets cost from $250.oo to $400.oo each.
I can create marionettes, rod puppets, masks, shadow puppets and costume/mask puppets from any-and-all-sorts of materials that work for you and your project, play or presentation. I can work from miniature critter to big monster scale on whatever creatures you need. I can also do group/classroom workshops or consult on your own puppet or costume projects. I'm very experienced and good at working with "children of all ages".
I charge $30.oo per hour consulting/workshopping/studio time. If you need me to provide and/or do the shopping/scrounging for materials, I'll invoice you for the costs as agreed upon. There are no charges for planning appointments to work out timetable/fees and materials costs for a project or program.
